Itinerary
DAY 1: LIMA → On arrival in Lima transfer to your hotel for two nights.
DAY 2: LIMA → Discover Peru’s capital with a tour visiting the city’s colonial centre and excellent Larco Museum. B.
DAYS 3-4: LIMA → PERUVIAN AMAZON → Transfer to the airport for your onward flight to the town of Puerto Maldonado on the Madre de Dios River in the Amazon basin. Continue by boat to the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica, situated in a private ecological reserve, for two nights. Excursions are included into the surrounding jungle in search of rare and exotic wildlife including parrots, caimans, monkeys, sloths and the endangered giant river otter. B, L, D; B, L, D.
DAY 5: PERUVIAN AMAZON → SACRED VALLEY → Return to Puerto Maldonado and fly to Cuzco. Continue to the Sacred Valley for a two night stay. Nearly 2000 feet lower than Cuzco, time here allows gentle acclimatisation to the high altitudes of the Andes. B.
DAY 6: SACRED VALLEY → A full day to explore the beautiful Sacred Valley. This fertile area along the Urubamba River between Cuzco and Machu Picchu is home to Incan ruins, small Andean towns and colourful local markets. B, L.
DAY 7: SACRED VALLEY → MACHU PICCHU → Board the early morning Vistadome train to Machu Picchu – ‘The Lost City of the Incas’. A tour of this incredible site offers an invaluable insight into its history and context. Stay overnight. B, L, D.
DAY 8: MACHU PICCHU → CUZCO → Morning at leisure. Return by rail to Cuzco for two nights. B.
DAY 9: CUZCO → Today a half-day tour introduces you to Cuzco. Once the capital of the great Incan Empire, the Spanish developed the city, building impressive churches and mansions on the foundations of the old Incan citadel. B.
DAY 10: CUZCO → PUNO → Take an incredible full-day journey across the Andes by railway. The Andean Explorer train traverses one of the highest points of any railway system in the world, taking you through spellbinding scenery to the high altiplano and onwards to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca where you will spend one night. DAY 11: PUNO → COLCA CANYON → Early morning visit to the Uros floating islands to learn about the lifestyle and traditions of the Uros people. Continue by road for a lengthy but spectacular journey to the Colca Canyon for an overnight stay. B, L, D.
DAYS 12-13: COLCA CANYON → AREQUIPA → The second deepest canyon in the world and twice as deep as the Grand Canyon, the Colca Canyon offers a dramatic landscape. Enjoy an early morning visit to Cruz del Condor, with the chance to see the mighty Andean Condor. Continue to Arequipa for a two night stay. The following day enjoy a tour of the colonial centre of this elegant city including a visit to the Santa Catalina convent. B, L; B.
DAY 14: AREQUIPA → LIMA → Return by air to Lima for a farewell dinner and your final night in Peru. B, D.
DAY 15: LIMA → Transfer to the airport for your onward journey. Alternatively, you could choose to extend your stay. B.
